The Trailer for Henry Cavill’s Final Witcher Episodes Is Very, Very Ominous

The end is nigh—at least for Henry Cavill’s time as the Witcher. The second volume of season three arrives later this month, and a new trailer gives a lot—like, a lot—of hints as to how things might go for Geralt of Rivia. “There’s no coming back from this,” he intones, darkly.

And there isn’t any coming back to this show for Cavill, who announced last fall that he would be leaving the Netflix series. Liam Hemsworth (The Hunger Games) will step in as the lead when The Witcher returns for its fourth season.

But first, a lot of drama! And also a unicorn that appears when Ciri (Freya Allan) seems to port into another world (or at least a different bit of geography). The found-family trio of Geralt, Ciri, and Yennefer (Anya Chalotra) do a lot of fighting, much of it slow-motion, and a lot of exclaiming of each other’s names. There’s a heavy, heavy implication that a sacrifice is looming; in keeping with the dramatic arc of many a fantasy series, Ciri says desperately “There has to be another way!” amid scenes of Geralt in very tense danger.

There’s no new summary along with this trailer, as it’s the second half of the third season, which Netflix summarized thusly:

As monarchs, mages, and beasts of the Continent compete to capture her, Geralt takes Ciri into hiding, determined to protect his newly-reunited family against those who threaten to destroy it. Entrusted with Ciri’s magical training, Yennefer leads them to the protected fortress of Aretuza, where they hope to uncover more about the girl’s untapped powers; instead, they discover they’ve landed in a battlefield of political corruption, dark magic, and treachery. They must fight back, put everything on the line – or risk losing each other forever.

The Witcher season 3 volume 2 (episodes 6-8) arrives on July 27th.
